How Does Coinless’s Wash Club Stand Out?

By now, talking about the benefits of converting customers to subscribed members is like talking about the benefits of keeping clean oil in your car–it’s simply the best way to keep your business running efficiently. According to this article, 70% of business leaders believe subscription models are the key to growth and expansion. But for the unattended carwash owner, affordable subscription solutions didn’t exist until recently. So allow me to show off some of the features that make Coinless’s Wash Club product stand out among the others.   2. SIMPLE TERMS – A confusing subscription is less effective. Coinless Wash Club couldn’t be more simple: “Pay X, Get Y!” It’s that easy. The operator chooses a minimum monthly payment for which they will allow the customer to join, the customer agrees to an automatic, monthly withdrawal, and the operator rewards their loyalty with additional credits. The operator chooses the amount that best suit the business. Many of our operators offer a “Double Your Money With Wash Club” program. That seems to work well.
  3. AUTONOMOUS UP-SELLING – Like all well-designed apps, the Coinless app has built-in triggers that queue the right messages at the right time in the customer journey. When a customer gets low on Wash Club credits, the app will ask them if they want a boost to get through the rest of the month. Of course, now that they’re members, they wouldn’t want to go back to paying the real amount for services, so a boost is a no-brainer. Then we take it one step further; once the customer purchases the boost, the app asks them if they want to upgrade to a higher monthly amount. Imagine needing a boost for two months in a row…think you might upgrade?
  4. MEMBERS ARE ROYALTY – The Coinless app does what it can to make customers feel special. Members should feel above worrying about the number of credits they have to spend, which is why we only talk about credits once they get low (see item #3). This creates a feeling of having unlimited credits, which is crucial in keeping your members content and subscribed.
  5. LOSS AVERSION – The next important factor is keeping your customers onboard. Few forces are as powerful in retail as the psychological principle of loss aversion. Members get their reward every month, and they keep getting it as long as they remain a member. If a customer decides to cancel, we politely remind them they will lose all their bonus Wash Club credits. Enter loss aversion. Customers just don’t like feeling like they’re losing something (they’re not), and most stay on board because of loss aversion.
  6. REPORTING – Data is king. When you adopt a monthly subscription program, you should know a few metrics offhand; MRR, # of Members, Avg. Subscription Amount, LTV, Churn Rate, Redeem Rate, etc. We provide all these metrics in a handsome portal to help you with your Wash Club decision-making. We even collect information from reasons from cancelling members and report it back to you so you can understand how to better customize the program to your customer demographic.

Wash Club is a software feature that some of our competitors sell as their only product, and pricing is often calculated as a revenue share from the subscriptions. That’s not how Coinless does it. Wash Club is just one of the many stopping points along the Coinless customer journey. The Coinless MVFs (Most Valuable Features)

Here at Coinless, I often get this question:

What does the Coinless platform provide that its competitors don’t?

It’s a solid question. I love how it gets to the point. The answer is…wait for it…I’m not sure, since I don’t know everything our competitors provide for certain. For one, it’s hard to find another mobile carwash app that does exactly the same things Coinless does. Furthermore, I’ve noticed other carwash apps like to promote they have things they actually don’t upon deeper inspection. Frankly, the best way to answer the question is a short phone call (I’ve provided our phone number at the end of this article). But since some not all people want to jump straight on a sales call, here’s a list of what I would consider the Coinless MVFs (Most Valuable Features):

  • End-to-End Point of Sale – Coinless dangles the proverbial carrot to your customers at every step in the transaction flow: $5 credit to download the app and create your account ($10 in AU/NZ); now use those credits with your first purchase; now give us immediate feedback; now have some loyalty points for your purchase; now refer your friends to earn points; oh, and have you seen how to become a WashClub member?… It’s all built right into an intuitive flow and it provides endless benefits for operators and customers alike.   • Data-Driven Reporting – The customer information we gather from customers, is your information. Coinless Loyalty in 6 Easy Steps

Loyalty is defined as a strong feeling of support or allegiance, but how does this relate to car
washes? Car wash owners are consistently competing against other locations to win over loyal
customers. A car wash customer will always find a way to dirty their car, but owners want their
location to be top of mind when this happens. When it comes to winning over customers, a well
structured car wash loyalty program could tip the scales.
One of the best ways to keep your business busy and your customers sticky, regardless of the
weather, is by setting up your Coinless Loyalty Program. The Coinless Loyalty Program is a
powerful tool that car wash owners can use to encourage and increase customer loyalty. Here is
how it works:

1. Log in to your Coinless Owner Portal account
2. Under Configuration on the left side of the screen, select the Loyalty tab. It will look
like this:

3. Once in the Loyalty tab, an owner can see their loyalty program settings, as well as turn
their loyalty program on and off. If “Loyalty Program” is switched to “Off”, press the “click

on toggle button” to turn the loyalty program On. We encourage all owners to utilize this
loyalty program feature.

4. Now that you are in the Loyalty tab and you have turned the program to On, you will be
able to see the Money-to-Point Ratio:

The Money to Point Ratio shows owners how many Dollars a customer must spend to
earn a single Point. In the program pictured above, for every dollar a Coinless customer
spends, the customer will earn one point. Both the Money and the Point sides can be
adjusted by the owner.

The Money to Point Ratio can also serve as a promotional tool for owners. By changing
the ratio to 1:2, owners can entice customers into their washes by offering “double
points” on certain days. To clarify, by adjusting the Money to Point Ratio, owners can
change the ratio from 1 point per dollar spent, to two points per dollar spent at the push
of a button. When owners are using Coinless, implementing promotions is just that

5. The next metric of the Loyalty program that owners must understand is the Points-to-
Credit Threshold (pictured below). Say a customer has accumulated fifty points, which would
meet the requirements of the Points-to-Credit Threshold shown below. This triggers the
system to convert every earned point (50) into credits that they can spend as virtual money. Of
course, customers must meet this threshold before this reward is given. In other words, the
customer will have to spend 50 dollars to earn 50 points.

But what are these points worth?

6. Finally, owners must understand the process by which earned points are converted back into
spendable credits. This can be done by adjusting the Point-to-Credit Ratio:

Assuming a Point-to-Credit Ratio of 10:1 and a Points -to-Credit Threshold of 50 points,
customers would then receive 1 credit to spend at that location per 10 points that they have
earned. Again, if the Points to Credit Threshold is 50, then points will not convert into credits
until a customer has earned 50 points. In other words, a Coinless user will spend $50 and get
$5 in credits.

At Coinless, we believe that rewarding customers for their consistent business incentivizes them
to keep coming back. However, Loyalty is only one of the many tools that Coinless has to offer.

A (Not-So) Sticky Situation

In the early stages of Coinless, we decided to bulk order a few variations of our “Station Identifier” signs in order to lower costs for us and our partner locations . Following an onboarding call with a new partner, we would print the corresponding QR code stickers for that location’s signs, stick them, and ship. Seems reasonable, right?

Not quite.

A few months after the shipment and installation of the first signs, we received an influx of support calls and emails from our partner operators. The issue? Our QR stickers…not so sticky after all. High pressure rinse, chemicals and soap; sun, rain, and for some sites, snow. A perfect recipe for the signs to let those QR stickers go.

Although this mistake was relatively small, replacing the stickers cost us and our partner operators valuable time & resources. Now, all station identifiers come with printed QR codes, and the addition of our new signage website has made for a quick, easy and seamless experience for our operators. A solution that’s sure to stick!
